Vintage Inuit Stone Fisherman Carving
After their review of photos of this piece, the Inuit, First Nations and Métis Art Department at Waddington's Auctions and Appraisals stated that the artist of this piece is Peter Sevoga (1940-2007).
A prominent Canadian Inuit sculptor and printmaker, Peter Paloogahyak Sevoga lived and worked in Baker Lake (aka: Qamani’tuaq), Keewatin (now Nunavut). His works have been exhibited throughout Canada and the U.S.A. and are in the collections of many major museums.
There are natural flaws in the materials used which can be seen in these images. The fishing hook passes through the hand of the carving; the line of said hook separated near the end of the fishing line and both lines were re-connected back together with thread, as pictured.
This sculpture measures 11.25"H x 9"W x 7"D
